Candy Cane Marshmallow Treats

Add something a little extra to candy canes this year.

I must admit that I’m not a huge candy cane fan. However, with the addition of a marshmallow and some white chocolate, these are just that little bit more delicious.

The idea for these came from a pin that I saw on Pinterest, although they used dark chocolate rather than white.

If you are making gifts for friends and neighbours then a few of these wrapped in cellophane with a nice bit of ribbon would look very pretty. They are also easy enough to get your kids involved with putting them together – although the smashed candy canes do tend to get everywhere, so there may be a bit of mess 🙂

Ingredients – makes 20:

  • 25 small candy canes
  • 20 white marshmallows (make sure they aren’t flavoured)
  • 100g/3.5 oz white chocolate buttons

  • Put 5 of the candy canes into a plastic food bag then carefully hit with a rolling pin to break the canes into small pieces. This is a bit of a balancing act between making the pieces small enough so they will stick to the marshmallows, but not going too far that they turn into powder.
  • Transfer the smashed canes into a small bowl.
  • Push the remaining candy canes into the marshmallows – 1 candy cane to 1 marshmallow. Tip: use a metal skewer or the prong of a fork to start off the hole in the marshmallow, then the candy cane should stick in a little easier.
  • Melt the white chocolate, either in a bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water or in your microwave.
  • Once the chocolate is smooth, dip a marshmallow into the chocolate and then into the bowl of smashed candy cane bits. Place on a clean plate to set, then repeat for the remaining marshmallows.
  • Once the chocolate has set you can serve or wrap as required.
  • Enjoy!
