It is the school holidays at the moment here in Perth (Australia), and the long summer breaks will be starting soon for everyone in the northern hemisphere. For a lot of families finding entertainment for the kids can be quite a challenge especially when there is a limited budget.
Getting your kids involved in cooking might be a solution. Of course you should be careful with regards to the recipe selection, and always ensure that there is plenty of adult supervision, particularly when cutting or cooking is involved.
What you can cook together depends on the age of your kids and their attention span. If you can get a quick result then they can enjoy the ‘fruits’ of their labours. With that in mind, I’ve pulled together a few recipes. These are all cheap too and you probably have most of the ingredients already.
Chicken nuggets are a kid-friendly snack and the home-made version is very tasty.
Bread is always a favourite, so make your own Tomato, Cheese and Chive Damper. You could also adapt the ingredients to suit your family’s tastes.
Baking sweet treats is another option. My Peanut Butter and Jelly Brownies only need a few ingredients.
If cookies are more your style, these Caramel and Choc Chip Cookies are delicious.
Finally, try this twist on a classic – Jam Doughnut Muffins.
